Fishing Bridge, WY - Cooler, cloudy weather and light rainfall on the East Fire Complex in Yellowstone National Park on Friday helped to reduce the immediate fire threat to the park's East Entrance Road.

Beginning Sunday, the National Park Service, in conjunction with the Incident Management Team, will be partially reopening the East Entrance Road for public travel. The road will be open in the morning hours from 6:00 am to 9:00 am; and in the evening hours from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The public will not be allowed to stop their vehicles along a 16-mile long section of the East Entrance Road between Fishing Bridge and Sylvan Pass because of still smoldering fuels, falling snags and fire-weakened trees. The maximum speed limit through the fire area will be 35 mph due to heavy fire traffic and the presence of firefighters along the road. "If conditions change and the fire begins to compromise the safety of the road, we will close it again as needed to provide for public and firefighter safety," said Dale Gardner, Incident Commander.

PLEASE NOTE: The road may be closed periodically due to an increased threat from the Grizzly Fire, or for planned burnout operations along a 1.5 mile section of road between Sylvan Lake and Sylvan Pass. The burnout operations are a key part of ongoing efforts to contain the northeast spread of the Grizzly Fire and to prevent the fire from crossing Sylvan Pass into the Middle Creek drainage.
