Yellowstone National Park News Release

Firehole Canyon Drive Temporarily Closed

May 14, 2003 - PR 03-29

Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Suzanne Lewis announced that the Firehole Canyon Drive just south of Madison Junction is temporarily closed to all traffic - vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle. This temporary closure is the result of a large washout in the roadway; this section of road is currently under repair.

Due to the nature of the road damage and the heavy equipment/truck traffic traveling and working on this roadway, safety concerns prompted the complete temporary closure of the roadway. This closure will remain in effect for approximately three weeks.

Firehole Canyon Drive is a two-mile long popular side road south of Madison Junction. The washout occurred approximately a mile from the entrance.
