I took the boat across the lake two summers ago for a seven night hike around the south side and then West out to Heart Lake TH. If I recall correctly, I wasn't able to speak to the reservation folks until they opened in June. If the concession is still in operation, you should have no problem getting a reservation. Just make sure you call soon after they open.
