It's a figure 8 and can be done in a day if you really must. Follow the map that the park service gives out. Stop at your choices, but I'd recommend Mammoth Terraces, Norris Geyser Basin, Midway Basin, Old Faithful Geyser & Inn (check time of geyser at Visitor Ctr. or at the Inn), (West Thumb Geyser Basin & Black Dragon at Mud Volcano if time permits), South Rim of Grand Canyon to see Upper & Lower Falls, and drive over Dunraven P@ss to Tower and back to Mammoth for scenery. Look for animals along the way. Bring picnic lunch so you don't have to take time for and look for eating places. It is a long way around, so you might have to vary your plans.
