I would say it would be no problem for a 5 year old, nice flat easy walk along an old road. Lots of shade along the road. As for the Firehole River swimhole, questionable about a 5 year old. I have seen small children swimming there, there is not a lot of current, maybe with very close adult supervision and a flotation devise no problem. The river is warmer than most but not real warm, in late July it is refreshing, not sure what it would be like in June. Hope this is helpful.
